The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team could be crafting a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
