Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important political figure said the incident left him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
